Do you have any mountains in your life (both figuratively and literally?)

When I was in medical school, I had a magical peaceful path where I would often walk close to my apartment. Along this path you could see the breathtaking view of the beautiful mountains in the distance. While in school, I imagined myself building my foundation at the base of those mountains, then further imagined climbing with excitement to the mountain peak looking at the spectacular view all around me.

For those who have been to my West Virginia home, you know that I live on top of a mountain. My adventurous brothers may call it a “hill” lol but for most of us, we would classify it as a mountain. My mom and I decided to challenge ourselves to climb the winding road leading up and down this mountain several times a week. We then did something unexpected while climbing a mountain. We put some oldies music on speaker and then took turns doing dance moves going up the mountain. During the last bend, which is always the hardest, we would start shouting things like:

“I am healthy! I am strong! I am beautiful! I am a conquerer! I am excited!” “This mountain is getting easier and easier to climb!” When we switched our focus to the fun we were having, before we knew it, mom and I had reached the top!

We all have mountains that we are facing that may look different for each of us. We have two choices. We can either avoid the mountain or face the mountain. Yes, it’s going to be difficult and yes it is going to be a good work out. But who says the climb has to be the worst experience of our lives, if we never take a step toward it to know what lies beyond us?

I have discovered that when I face my deepest fears in climbing the mountains in my life, the more I realize how much God can do and the strength that He gives me. Once you start climbing, start speaking words of victory, hope, and empowerment! If you can speak it, you can live it! As you keep climbing, look at the beautiful view with each step and bask in every opportunity to enjoy the process.

Don’t wait to you get to the peak, to enjoy the climb.

When you reach the top, find your next mountain to climb! Always remember what you have accomplished...then have faith to keep coming up a little bit higher.
